THERE ARE CONCERNS ABOUT THE RELIABILITY OF NEW MEXICO’S DAMS DUE TO THE WET WINTER AND STRONG SPRING RUNOFF. STATE ENGINEER JOHN D’ANTONIO SAYS MORE THAN HALF OF THE APPROXIMATELY 300 DAMS ACROSS THE STATE ARE CONSIDERED “HIGH HAZARD.”
THE SANTA FE NEW MEXICAN REPORTS THAT A THIRD OF THESE DAMS ARE RATED “SATISFACTORY”…AND 30-PERCENT ARE CONSIDERED TO BE IN POOR OR UNSATISFACTORY CONDITION.
