MORE THAN FOUR AND A HALF YEARS AFTER IT HAPPENED, THE SHOOTING DEATH OF A SANTA FE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY BY ANOTHER DEPUTY REMAINS UNSETTLED. AN EL PASO TV STATION REPORTS THAT TAI CHAN’S THIRD TRIAL IN THE DEATH OF JEREMY MARTIN IS BEING DELAYED DUE TO SCHEDULING ISSUES FOR WITNESSES.
THE TRIAL WAS TO BEGIN LATER THIS MONTH IN LAS CRUCES. CHAN HAS BEEN TRIED TWICE BEFORE IN THE OCTOBER 2014 SHOOTING AT A LAS CRUCES HOTEL…AND BOTH CASES ENDED IN MISTRIALS. CHAN HAS CLAIMED HE ACTED IN SELF-DEFENSE.
