APS Wants Water Tested in Schools

ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS SAYS IT’S WORKING WITH STATE AGENCIES TO TEST LEAD LEVELS IN SCHOOL SINKS AND DRINKING FOUNTAINS. THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS THAT THE DISTRICT SUBMITTED SAMPLES FROM 69 SCHOOLS STARTING IN APRIL…AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT SOME OF THE WATER HAD LEAD LEVELS ABOVE THE THRESHOLD SET BY THE EPA.

APS CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER SCOTT ELDER TELLS THE JOURNAL THAT ABOUT 5-PERCENT OF THE SINKS AND FOUNTAINS TESTED WERE ABOVE THAT THRESHOLD. DAVID MORRIS WITH CITY-COUNTY WATER UTILITY AUTHORITY SAYS THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE FIXTURES…NOT THE WATER SUPPLY.
