ALBUQUERQUE IS GROWING AND ONE CITY COUNCILOR HAS NOTICED. ISAAC BENTON IS NOW PROPOSING TO EXPAND THE NUMBER OF COUNCIL DISTRICTS IN THE CITY FROM NINE TO 11. BENTON, WHO ALSO SAYS THAT IN ADDITION TO THE POPULATION GROWTH, SOME CITY COUNCILORS HAVE MORE ON THEIR PLATES TO HANDLE THAN OTHERS. HE SAYS ONE DISTRICT THAT HAS A LOT OF POVERTY IS DISTRICT 2, WHICH INCLUDES DOWNTOWN, OLD TOWN AND THE RURAL NORTH VALLEY.
THE COUNCIL HAS THE PROPOSAL PRESENTED MONDAY NIGHT. IF IT’S APPROVED, THE PROPOSED ORDINANCE THEN GOES TO VOTERS.
