SO FAR, ONLY FIVE ACRES HAVE BURNED IN THE LONE MOUNTAIN FIRE IN THE LINCOLN NATIONAL FOREST IN THE SMOKEY BEAR RANGER DISTRICT. THE FIRE STARTED SATURDAY AND WORD IS IT WAS CAUSED BY LIGHTNING. THE FIRE IS LOCATED ABOUT SIX MILES NORTH OF WHITE OAKS, NEW MEXICO.
AT LAST CHECK, IT WAS ZERO PERCENT CONTAINED. FIRE OFFICIALS ARE CONSIDERING A CONFINE-AND-CONTAIN APPROACH TO THIS FIRE IN ORDER TO REDUCE HAZARDOUS FUELS AND IMPROVE FORAGE CONDITIONS.
