NM Confirms First Hantavirus Case of 2019

THE NEW MEXICO HEALTH DEPARTMENT CONFIRMS THE STATE’S FIRST HANTAVIRUS CASE THIS YEAR. THEY FOUND IT IN A 50 YEAR OLD WOMAN FROM MCKINLEY COUNTY, WHO HAS SINCE BEEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND IS BACK AT HOME.

EARLY SYMPTOMS OF HPS, A PULMONARY SYNDROME, INCLUDE SYMPTOMS SIMILAR TO THOSE OF THE FLU. THAT’S INCUDES FEVERS, CHILLS, MUSCLE ACHES, HEADACHE AND ABDOMINAL PAIN. HANTAVIRUS USUALLY IS CONTRACTED BY PEOPLE WHO CLEAN OR ARE IN IN AREA WHERE THERE HAVE BEEN MICE DROPPINGS AND URINE, WHICH ARE INHALED.
