THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE IS ASKING THE DISTRICT COURT TO FORCE THE ALBUQUERQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO TURN OVER THE INTERNAL AFFAIRS FILE ON FORMER TORRANCE COUNTY SHERIFF HEATH WHITE. THE A-G HAS CHARGED WHITE WITH EMBEZZLING MORE THAN 160-THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM THE COUNTY DURING HIS TIME AS SHERIFF.
THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS DETAILS SURFACED IN THE A-G’S COURT FILING, SHOWING THAT WHEN WHITE WAS AN APD OFFICER IN 2004, HE WAS ACCUSED OF STEALING 700-DOLLARS FROM A MAN HE PULLED OVER FOR DRUNK DRIVING. ACCORDING TO THE JOURNAL, WHITE RESIGNED FROM THE DEPARTMENT IN JULY OF 2004 WHILE UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR THE ALLEGED THEFT.
