New Safety Measures for Rail Runner and Town of Bernalillo

THE NEW MEXICO RAIL RUNNER EXPRESS AND THE TOWN OF BERNALILLO ARE UNVEILING NEW SAFETY MEASURES AT THE DOWNTOWN BERNALILLO RAIL RUNNER STATION. RAIL RUNNER SPOKESWOMAN AUGUSTA MEYERS SAYS THESE SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS WERE NEEDED BECAUSE THE AREA HAS BEEN DANGEROUS IN THE PAST.

SHE SAYS ONE JOGGER WEARING HEAD PHONES WAS JOGGING IN THE RIGHT-OF-WAY AND WAS HIT BY A TRAIN. THERE IS NOW A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING WITH SAFETY GATES AND LIGHTS TO ALERT ANYONE TO AN APPROACHING TRAIN. ALSO, FENCING HAS BEEN INSTALLED TO LIMIT PEDESTRIAN ACCESS TO THE TRACKS.
