MIGRANTS FROM SOUTH OF THE BORDER SEEKING ASYLUM IN THE U-S WILL FIND NO SHELTER IN SANTA FE. THE CITY DIFFERENT WAS PREPARING FOR IT, BUT THEN MAYOR ALAN WEBBER GAVE THE CITY COUNCIL AN UPDATE ON THE SITUATION AT THE COUNCIL’S MEETING ON WEDNESDAY.
WEBBER SAYS MOST MIGRANTS ARE JUST STOPPING OVER IN SANTA FE BEFORE BEING SENT TO SPONSORS OUTSIDE OF NEW MEXICO. HE SAYS ALBUQUERQUE IS A BETTER LOCATION FOR SHELTER SINCE IT’S A BIGGER CITY WITH MORE TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS. HE SAYS SANTA FE WILL NOW RAISE FUNDS AND ORGANIZE VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST ASYLUM SEEKERS.
