ONE IN FIVE STUDENTS AT ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL SEE AN EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR. THE DISTRICT SAYS…BASED ON RESULTS OF A SURVEY AS WELL AS INPUT FROM STUDENTS, FAMILIES AND OTHERS…IT HAS SUBMITTED AN APPLICATION TO THE STATE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO PAY FOR 10 MORE DAYS OF SCHOOL FOR 20-PERCENT OF THE DISTRICT’S STUDENTS.
EARLIER THIS MONTH, GOVERNOR MICHELLE LUJAN GRISHAM SIGNED LEGISLATION PROVIDING MORE MONEY FOR DISTRICTS THAT WANT TO EXTEND THE SCHOOL YEAR.
