THE ALBUQUERQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT IS BEING TOLD TO DISMISS ITS SPOKESMAN AND HIS FORMER SUPERVISOR. IT’S BEING CALLED FOR BY THE CIVILIAN OVERSIGHT AGENCY, CITING SPOKESMAN OFFICER SIMON DROBIK’S OVERTIME PAY. THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS DROBIK BECAME THE HIGHEST PAID EMPLOYEES AT APD LAST YEAR, TAKING HOME 192-THOUSAND-973 DOLLARS. THE AGENCY SAYS DROBIK’S FORMER SUPERVISOR ALSO EARNED TOP DOLLAR THAT YEAR.
THE AGENCY FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. MEMBERS OF THE AGENCY DO SAY THAT DROBIK VIOLATED THE POLICY FOR GETTING PAID FOR BEING ON CALL AS A SPOKESMAN AND WORKING CHIEF MICHAEL GEIER’S OVERTIME. GEIER WILL DECIDE WHAT ACTION WILL BE TAKEN.
