THE BERNALILLO COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT IS LOW ON FEMALE DEPUTIES. IN FACT, DEPUTY AND RECRUITER JENNIFER GARCIA SAYS IT’S A PROBLEM NATIONWIDE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT. THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT WANTS TO CHANGE THAT SO IT’S HOSTING A SEMINAR FOR WOMEN INTERESTED IN BECOMING DEPUTIES.
THE DEPARTMENT CURRENTLY HAS NEARLY 300 SWORN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND ONLY 34 ARE FEMALE. FOUR OF THOSE WOMEN ARE SERGEANTS, ONE IS A LIEUTENANT, AND THE REMAINDER ARE DEPUTIES.
THE SEMINAR IS ON THIS SATURDAY AT COTTONWOOD MALL FROM 12PM TO 3. CALL 804-0000 FOR MORE INFORMATION.
