Higher Minimum Wage Now the Law in NM

MINIMUM WAGE WORKERS IN NEW MEXICO ARE GETTING A PAY HIKE. GOVERNOR MICHELLE LUJAN GRISHAM HAS SIGNED A BILL RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE TO 9-DOLLARS AN HOUR NEXT JANUARY. IT’S CURRENTLY 7-50. THE WAGE WILL GRADUALLY INCREASE EVERY YEAR UNTIL IT HITS 12-DOLLARS AN HOUR BY THE YEAR 2023…A 60-PERCENT INCREASE FROM THE CURRENT LEVEL.

IN SIGNING THE BILL, LUJAN GRISHAM SAID NO NEW MEXICAN WHO WORKS 40-HOURS A WEEK SHOULD LIVE IN POVERTY. THE STATE HASN’T RAISED ITS MINIMUM WAGE IN MORE THAN TEN YEARS.
