THE ALBUQUERQUE POLICE OVERSIGHT BOARD WILL SOON HAVE EXPANDED POWER. THE ALBUQUERQUE CITY COUNCIL MONDAY NIGHT VOTED TO GIVE THE BOARD SUBPOENA POWER TO LOOK INTO CIVIL COMPLAINTS AGAINST POLICE OFFICERS. THE GOAL OF THE EXPANSION IS TO GIVE ALLOW PEOPLE IN THE ALBUQUERQUE COMMUNITY TO BE MORE INVOLVED WITH CONCERNS ABOUT POLICE OFFICERS USING EXCESSIVE FORCE.
THE BOARD HAS REPORTED IT’S GOTTEN MORE THAN 100 COMPLAINTS SINCE OFFICERS SO FAR THIS YEAR.
THE POLICE OVERSIGHT BOARD WAS CREATED FOUR YEARS AGO.
