NM Snowpack Improves

IRRIGATION SEASON IS NOW UNDERWAY ALONG THE RIO GRANDE…AND IT LOOKS LIKE THERE SHOULD BE PLENTY OF WATER FOR FARMERS…AT LEAST TO BEGIN WITH. HYDROLOGIST DAVID GENSLER WITH THE MIDDLE RIO GRANDE CONSERVANCY DISTRICT SAYS SNOWPACK IN THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS IS ANYWHERE FROM 120 TO 140 PERCENT OF NORMAL. HE SAYS IT’S DONE A COMPLETE FLIP-FLOP FROM LAST YEAR. HE SAYS THIS YEAR, WE’RE LOOKING AT A GOOD RUNOFF.

GENSLER SAYS A LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER WILL BE COMING DOWN THE VALLEY THIS SPRING…SO YOU SHOULD BE NOTICING HIGHER WATER LEVELS ALONG THE RIVER.
