SPEED VANS COULD BE RETURNING TO THE STREETS OF SANTA FE. THE SANTA FE NEW MEXICAN REPORTS THE IDEA MAY GO BEFORE THE FULL SANTA FE CITY COUNCIL NEXT MONTH. THIS WOULD BE THE SECOND TIME THE CONTROVERSIAL SPEED MONITORING VANS MAKE AN APPEARANCE IN SANTA FE.
THE PROGRAM WAS IN PLACE FROM 2009 THROUGH 2013 WHEN IT WAS DISCONTINUED. THIS TIME, THE IDEA IS TO USE A DIFFERENT COMPANY OUT OF ARIZONA. UNDER THE PROPOSAL, THE COMPANY SUPPLYING THE VANS WOULD GET 40 DOLLARS OF EVERY 100 DOLLARS IN FINES.
THE VANS WOULD NOT BE PERMITTED ON STATE ROADS, SUCH AS CERRILLOS ROAD OR ST. FRANCIS DRIVE.
