THE BILL TO REPEAL NEW MEXICO’S ANTI-ABORTION LAW FAILS TO GET THE APPROVAL OF STATE SENATORS. THEY REJECTED THE MEASURE THURSDAY NIGHT. THAT’S AFTER THE HOUSE PASSED IT EARLIER THIS MONTH.
THE MEASURE WOULD HAVE ELIMINATED NEW MEXICO’S ANTI-ABORTION LAW, WHICH USUALLY ISN’T ENFORCED BECAUSE OF THE ROE V WADE LAW APPROVED IN 1973 BY THE SUPREME COURT. ONE SPONSOR OF THE BILL, STATE REP JOANNE FERRARY, SAYS THE MEASURE WOULD HAVE PROTECTED ABORTION RIGHTS IN THE STATE IF ROE VS. WADE WAS OVERTURNED.
