THERE’S AN INFLUX OF IMMIGRANTS FROM SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO NOW IN ALBUQUERQUE. CHANNEL 7 NEWS REPORTS A CATHOLIC CHARITY IN EL PASO SO MANY MIGRANTS HAVE CROSSED THE BORDER SEEKING ASYLUM THAT THEY’VE RUN OUT OF HOUSING AND ARE BUSING THEM TO ALBUQUERQUE.
ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN ALBUQUERQUE’S NORTH VALLEY SAYS THEY’RE MAKING FOOD FOR ABOUT 300 MIGRANTS WHO ARRIVED SUNDAY. SOME OF THEM ARE STAYING IN HOTELS. THEY’LL STAY THERE UNTIL THEY’RE BUSED OR FLOWN TO OTHER STATES TO CONNECT WITH FAMILIES TO SPONSOR THEM.
ALBUQUERQUE’S OFFICE OF EQUITY AND INCLUSION SAYS THE GOOD NEWS IS TAXPAYERS AREN’T FOOTING THE BILL FOR THIS.
