IT’S A WIN FOR SANTA FE’S PUBLIC SCHOOLS. A FIRST-TIME-EVER MAIL-IN ELECTION TO RENEW A SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY PROPERTY TAX PASSED WITH 59 PERCENT OF THE VOTE. THE “SANTA FE NEW MEXICAN” REPORTS THAT ACCORDING TO THE SANTA FE COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE A THIRD OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT’S REGISTERED VOTERS MAILED-IN OR HAND DELIVERED THEIR BALLOTS. IF THE VOTE HAD FAILED, PROPERTY TAXES WOULD HAVE GONE DOWN, BUT NOW 11-MILLION-DOLLARS-PER-YEAR WILL CONTINUE TO FUND TECHNOLOGY FOR ANOTHER FIVE YEARS. ALBUQUERQUE VOTERS REJECTED A MILL-LEVY LAST MONTH THAT WOULD HAVE RAISED PROPERTY TAXES.
