NEW MEXICO IS ONE STEP CLOSER TO JOINING EIGHT OTHER STATES IN ALLOWING LOTTERY WINNERS TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS. SENATE BILL 397 PASSED THE SENATE IN SANTA FE ON MONDAY ON A 32-TO-2 VOTE AND NOW HEADS TO THE HOUSE.
THE BILL WAS INTRODUCED BY SENATOR PAT WOODS AND IT GIVES WINNERS OF LOTTERY PRIZES THE ABILITY TO KEEP THEIR PERSONAL INFORMATION FROM THE PUBLIC. WINNERS WILL HAVE THE OPTION OF ALLOWING THEIR PERSONAL INFORMATION TO BE RELEASED.
ANYONE WHO VIOLATES THE DISCLOSURE PROHIBITION COULD BE CHARGED WITH A PETTY MISDEMEANOR.
