SAFE ZONES ARE COMING TO DOWNTOWN ALBUQUERQUE. THE CITY COUNCIL VOTED MONDAY NIGHT TO APPROVE COUNCILOR ISAAC BENTON’S PROPOSAL TO CREATE SAFE ZONES DOWNTOWN. YOU’LL HAVE TO DRIVE 20 MILES PER HOUR WHEN YOU’RE IN THE ZONE … WHICH IS IN AN AREA BORDERED BY 8TH STREET ON THE WEST AND THE TRAIN TRACKS ON THE EAST … COAL ON THE SOUTH AND LOMAS ON THE NORTH.
BENTON DRAFTED THE LEGISLATION SAYING IT’LL BE SAFER DOWNTOWN FOR PEDESTRIANS AND PEOPLE RIDING BIKES. NOW THAT THE BILL HAS BEEN APPROVED, TIMING SIGNALS WILL BE CHANGED AND 100 SIGNS IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA WILL BE ADDED OR CHANGED BY APRIL, NEXT MONTH.
