West Side Shelter to Be Kept Open

MORE THAN 3-HUNDRED MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN ARE LEFT ON THE STREETS EACH NIGHT BECAUSE EMERGENCY HOUSING ON ALBUQUERQUE’S WEST SIDE SHUTS DOWN ONCE IT GETS WARMER IN MARCH. BUT NOW, ALBUQUERQUE MAYOR TIM KELLER AND BERNALILLO COUNTY MANAGER JULIE MORGAS BACA ARE JOINING CITY AND COUNTY OFFICIALS AS WELL AS SHELTER MANAGERS TO KEEP THE WEST SIDE SHELTER OPEN YEAR ROUND.

MAYOR KELLER SAYS RESIDENTS TELL HIS OFFICE THEY WANT SOLUTIONS TO THIS PROBLEM. THE CITY AND COUNTY ARE NOW FUNDING SHELTER OPERATIONS AND WILL CONTRIBUTE STAFF FOR CASE MANAGEMENT AT THE SHELTER … AND THAT WILL INCREASE TO OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES.
