A NEW MEXICO LAWMAKER HAS PROPOSED A BILL SHE SAYS WILL HELP IT RAIN IN NEW MEXICO. DEMING DEMOCRATIC STATE REP CANDIE SWEETSER’S BILL WOULD FUND A WEATHER MODIFICATION PROGRAM THAT WOULD PULL RAIN FROM THE CLOUDS. REPRESENTATIVE SWEETSER SAYS THIS WOULDN’T BE THE FIRST TIME CLOUD SEEDING WAS USED IN EASTERN NEW MEXICO, INCREASING PRECIPITATION BY 10 PERCENT.
A HOUSE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MEASURE, WHICH NOW GOES TO APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE.
CLOUDS WOULD BE SEEDED WITH IODIZED SALT, BUT CHANNEL 13 NEWS SAYS CLOUDS CAN ONLY STAY SEEDED FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. SWEETSER SAYS HER BILL WOULD FOCUS ON NORTHERN AND SOUTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO AND FUNDING WOULD BE 1-POINT-2 MILLION DOLLARS.
