LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL LAB IS LOOKING FOR A NEW SUPERCOMPUTER AND IS PUTTING OUT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS. ACCORDING TO THE LOS ALAMOS MONITOR NEWSPAPER, THE SUPERCOMPUTER, DUBBED “CROSSROADS,” WILL BE PUT TO WORK HELPING TO MAINTAIN THE NATION’S NUCLEAR STOCKPILE.
THESE HIGH SPEED COMPUTERS EMPLOYED BY THE U.S. DEPT OF ENERGY ARE OFTEN USED TO TEST THE COMPONENTS OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN THE STOCKPILE AS WELL AS THE WEAPON’S POWER AND CAPABILITIES.
