ATTORNEY GENERAL HECTOR BALDERAS IS ASKING THE LEGISLATURE FOR FOUR-AND-A-HALF MILLION DOLLARS NEXT FISCAL YEAR TO HELP PAY FOR A COURT BATTLE OVER WATER. BALDERAS TOLD LAWMAKERS LAST WEEK THAT NEW MEXICO IS IN AN HISTORIC FIST FIGHT WITH TEXAS AND THE U.S. GOVERNMENT OVER MANAGEMENT OF THE RIO GRANDE.
THE MATTER HAS BEEN BEFORE THE U.S. SUPREME COURT SINCE 2013…AND BALDERAS SAYS IT MAY BE MORE THAN A YEAR BEFORE THE CASE ACTUALLY GOES TO TRIAL. BRIEFINGS ARE SCHEDULED FOR NEXT MONTH.
