THERE’S BEEN A MULTI-STATE CLUSTER OF SALMONELLA INFECTIONS LINKED TO GROUND BEEF. HERE IN NEW MEXICO, THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SAYS, SINCE LATE AUGUST, 30 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH SALMONELLA AFTER PREPARING GROUND BEEF AT HOME.
DOCTOR CHAD SMELSER IS WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT ADVISES YOU NOT TO EAT ANY RAW OR UNDERCOOKED EGGS, POULTRY OR BEEF. HE ALSO SAYS KEEP UNCOOKED MEATS AWAY FROM OTHER PRODUCE AND READY-TO-EAT FOODS.
THE DEPARTMENT SAYS DURATION OF THE ILLNESS HAS AVERAGED 13 DAYS, WITH MORE THAN A QUARTER OF THE PATIENTS REQUIRING HOSPITALIZATION.
