Bernalillo County officials are saluting the men and women who work at the Metropolitan Detention Center during National Correctional Officers Week. Jonathan Thomas is the acting chief at the MDC. He says, as it is with many other areas related to law enforcement, their staffing level is an on-going issue.
He says law enforcement is a specialized field that isn’t for everyone. He says it’s also challenging to keep their staffing numbers up.
The county is in the market for a permanent chief for the MDC with the job posting closing soon. Thomas tells us he’s applied for the position.
