The Santa Fe police officer is okay. The suspect is not. A man trying to avoid arrest at his Eldorado home Saturday night is dead after a shootout with the Santa Fe officer and a State Police detective. State Police say it happened when the officer and detective tried to arrest the man after a stolen vehicle was discovered in his driveway.
The male suspect tried to drive away in the police cruiser but was stopped by the officer and detective. The officer was injured when he was pinned against a tree by the vehicle. He was hospitalized and treated, but reportedly has been released from the hospital.
One round was fired and the suspect died on the scene.
