Senate Committee Approves Funding for NM Courts

The back-and-forth continues between Governor Martinez and the Legislature over court funding. The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that the Senate Judiciary Committee Monday night approved $1.6 million to fund jury trials through the end of June.

In recent weeks, the Governor has twice vetoed money to fund New Mexico’s court system. But last week the State Board of Finance, chaired by Martinez, approved $600,000 in court funding. That would only pay for jury trials through the middle of April.
