Ground was broken Tuesday on a long-awaited project at the ABQ Biopark Zoo- a $12 million penguin exhibit. Mayor RJ Berry says it’s the first big project funded by a Zoo Tax approved by voters in 2015. He says it’s the first project of what will end up being a quarter of a Billion dollar investment over the next 15 years.
The project will take about a year to complete. Mayor Berry says it will be one of only 25 penguin exhibits in the US and should make the zoo even more of a major tourist attraction.
He says the zoo will also soon be adding exhibits featuring otters, tigers, and jaguars.
