New Mexico’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant near Carlsbad is up and running again. The WIPP site, the only underground nuclear waste dump in the nation, reopened on Wednesday with two pallets of low-level radioactive waste being placed in one of the underground disposal rooms. The US Energy Department confirms that.
WIPP has been closed for nearly three years after a radiation leak.
