Winter Can Be Hard on Asthma Sufferers

 

Those cozy winter scenes in New Mexico of families gathered around the fireplace may seem appealing, but not if you’re one of the thousands of residents dealing with asthma. National asthma expert, Dr. David Slade, tells News Radio KKOB fireplace smoke can be a dangerous trigger for an attack.

He says it’s also important to avoid products like hair spray or any indoor sprays and air fresheners, and ask family members to avoid using perfumes or anything with a strong scent.

The New Mexico Department of Health says that since 2000, the prevalence of asthma among adults in the state has steadily increased.
