Tax and Rev Secretary Resigns

State investigators have the tax returns for Demesia Padilla and her husband. The records cover 2011 through 2013. They’re investigating whether Padilla, who resigned her job Thursday as the state’s Cabinet Secretary for Tax and Rev, failed to report income she received from a former tax client. The client alleges Padilla transferred money from the company’s account without permission. In the warrant affidavit, it says Padilla “did not report any income she received on her yearly financial disclosure statements.” The tax records were seized Wednesday. The investigation began in July of 2015 after the AG’s office received a letter alleging illegal and financially questionable acts. Padilla was appointed Cabinet Secretary in 2011.
