More Hantavirus Cases in NM for 2016

Two more cases of Hantavirus confirmed in New Mexico. Dr. Paul Ettestad with the State Health Department tells us the state has confirmed more Hantavirus cases this year than usual. In just the last couple of weeks, the 7th and 8th cases were confirmed in McKinley County in northwestern New Mexico.

One of those patients is a 59 year-old man, the other a 29 year-old woman. They’re both hospitalized. He says the deer mice that carry Hantavirus make their way indoors when it gets cold and he warns us not to stack fire wood next to our front door. He says deer mice next in the wood and can get inside your home.
