How bad is the teacher shortage in our state? The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that a recent study shows there are more than 440 vacant positions in public schools statewide. More than 160 of those open positions are at APS in Albuquerque, the state’s largest district.
The report says fewer college students are getting into teaching. The number of college students completing teaching degrees fell from nearly 1,100 in 2009 to fewer than 800 last year.
