FUNDING FOR THE MOUNTAIN COASTER AND NEW RESTAURANT FOR SANDIA CREST GETS UNANIMOUS APPROVAL FROM THE BERNALILLO COUNTY COMMISSION TUESDAY NIGHT. COMMISSIONER WAYNE TELLS US THE 9-MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT IS BEING FUNDED WITH INDUSTRIAL REVENUE BONDS … FLOATING BONDS THAT WILL BE PAID FOR BY INVESTORS … NOT TAXPAYERS OR THE COUNTY. HE SAYS THE MOUNTAIN COASTER WILL COST 2-MILLION DOLLARS TO BUILD. THE FINE DINING RESTAURANT REPLACING HIGH FINANCE WILL COST 7-MILLION DOLLARS.
HE SAYS IT’LL TAKE A COUPLE OF YEARS TO BUILD THE RESTAURANT. AFTER THAT, THEY’LL WORK ON THE MOUNTAIN COASTER. HE SAYS IT’LL MEAN LOSING PART OF A SKI SEASON TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT.
JOHNSON SAYS THE MOUNTAIN COASTER ISN’T LIKE A ROLLER COASTER. HE SAYS IT DOESN’T HAVE LOOPS LIKE ROLLER COASTERS DO, BUT DOES PICK UP SPEED ROLLING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN.
