BV’s Confidential

The only thing more stupid than having a preseason NFL game on in Primetime on NBC, is the announcers campaigning for a job for a coaching intern.  Jen Welter was hired by Cardinals coach Bruce Arians as an intern to “help” coach the linebackers for the Arizona Cardinals.  Not only did Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth devote a lot of time to Ms. Welter, talking her up and even showing highlights of her playing semi pro women’s football, they made it sound like if an NFL team doesn’t pick her up for a paid job on the sidelines they are discriminating against her. To show you how unimportant Ms. Welter is to the Cardinals, they don’t even give her a headset!  When she was shown on the sidelines she has the coach’s scowl down, I guess she has been practicing in front of a mirror, but no headset, no clipboard; she was about as essential on the sideline as the backup towel boy.  Well, wait a minute; towels are necessary so Ms. Welter is even lower on the pecking order than the towel boys.  So good luck to any NFL team that hires Ms. Welter, I’m sure 300 pound men for are paid to hit other men for a living will listen to a 100 pound woman about how to do their jobs.

Speaking of football the Lobos, kick off the season Saturday at 6pm against Mississippi Valley State right here on 770 KKOB.  UNM is set up for what could be a great year they will play 7 home games.  On paper it looks like at least 8 winnable games, so the Lobos could be on their way to bowl game for the first time in about a decade.  If they can’t get it done this year, it is time to move in another direction with the football program and let Bob Davie go back to ESPN.
