Pets of the Week | Aug 8

Happy news to report for both of our featured pets from last weekend! Zinnia was adopted during the event Saturday and Turk went home Tuesday.

We have two very handsome boys to feature this week and boy do we hope the good luck keeps going and they too find their forever homes.

Sammy (ID# A1722314) is a 2 year old, male white and brown Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is a taller boy but a great size weighing 46 pounds. Sammy is a bit camera shy or perhaps he just thinks his profile is his best side. This dog has the most beautiful eyes. They are a light grey/gold color and with what looks like black eye liner surrounding them they really stand out. Sammy appears to be a more of a gentle soul and came to us a little shy. He is well behaved in his kennel and much less of a shy guy now. When he acclimates to a home and feels safe and secure with his new family he may become a bit more energetic…after all he is still a young dog. He is easily leashed and walks nicely on leash. He would be a great walking partner. He will be a very loving companion as he enjoys sitting next to someone leaning in for petting and most likely he will give you a kiss. We had a new class of volunteers that started over the last couple of weeks and they have quickly fallen in love with Sammy. Sammy could be a nice easy hiking companion and seems to enjoy seeing the sights along the way. Sammy came to us a bit of a shy guy and is on the softer side but he really enjoys our doggie play groups. Staff is also using him as a helper dog when temperament testing our new arrivals. Remember we are always happy to help you with a meet and greet between your present companion and prospective adoptee. Sammy would be perfectly happy being your one and only too. Sammy has a fair complexion being mostly white with short hair and he has a lot of pink around his nose. Dogs like Sammy need to be inside more than out and when outside they need lots of shade. Even for those daily walks this time of year a dog with Sammy’s complexion needs some sunscreen to protect their noses.  Yes, dogs can sunburn too.  Sweet Sammy is ready to find his loving forever home and he is waiting in our first building A at the Eastside shelter.

Rocky (ID# A 1721763) is a 1 year old, male Chestnut and white Australian Cattle dog mix. His very handsome boy weighs 49 pounds.  His coat is gorgeous and he keeps it very clean even when he plays in our kiddy pool…yes he loves the water. Rocky is an active dog looking for an active family to take him on daily walks perhaps twice with one in the morning and one in the evening. You could enjoy the sunrises and sunsets together.  We think Rocky would love to go hiking and could be your jogging partner too. He might be the perfect companion for an older teenager around 15.  He is pretty good on leash and a very alert boy. Rocky enjoys our doggie play groups and is a bit on the rowdy side. He and Sammy played well with each other although Sammy tired quickly and just wanted to rest. Rocky would be happy as an only companion but perhaps you have another dog or cattle dog in need of a play mate? Many times these highly intelligent herding breeds need someone to keep their brains active too. Each adoption comes with a training class. Rocky already knows the cue for sit very well and your teacher can help you teach Rocky new tricks and give you ideas to keep him challenged and happy.  Rocky is ready to meet you at our Eastside shelter and he is in our very first building only a few kennels down from Sammy.
