The recent act of cowardice by Dylan Roof in South Carolina, killing nine innocent people at a Bible study class, makes us feel outrage and vulnerability. But it did not take long for people all the up to the president to politicize this tragic event for their leftist agenda. The first of which being another call for strict gun control laws and outright banning of guns in America. What Roof did had nothing to do with our current gun laws, but everything to do with the fact that he was simply nuts. His alleged reason for committing this act was that he wanted to start a race war. That is as insane enough of a premise to tell you that Roof was out of his gourd. Now the left is blaming not only guns but the Confederate flag, which fly’s at the South Carolina state house and the media also found photos of Roof displaying the flag. Now renewed calls to take the flag down and even ban the Confederate flag. Like any symbol the flag means different things to different people, to some oppression and to some just southern pride, but like any symbol, object or word it only means something to people who allow it to do so. Even if we take away all the guns and the perceived symbols of intolerance we will never be able to fully eliminate these acts of violence all we can do is mourn and take metal health more seriously in our society. Because that was the real reason Roof took all those lives, it was his mental instability not a gun or a flag.
