Pets of the Week | June 20

Our two little friends Bailey the larger adorable Chihuahua/Beagle mix and Cornelius the tiny Chihuahua with a big friendly disposition are still available at our Eastside shelter. One of our twin sisters we featured two weeks ago Tea went home with her perfect match. Her new dad said she was a bit shy but he fell in love when he met her out of the kennel building where she could relax and shower him with kisses.

If you are looking for a companion this is the time of year to head to your local shelter or rescue and please, “adopt, don’t shop”. When summer hits dogs find themselves given up for a variety of reasons and very few are because of something relating to behavior. Always people adopt or purchase puppies; even those that probably are pure breed and then realize they don’t come perfectly trained so leave them behind. People move and do not take their dogs; when kids are now out of school and have lots of activities occupying their time and none is left for that family dog then mom and dad leave them at the shelter. With warmer weather most dogs shed, we have had several left with us because they shed too much. Our kennels are getting crowded so consider opening your heart and home to offer a lifetime commitment for a dog or cat that was not very lucky the first time around with his/her parents.

It is always hard to pick just two dogs as we have too many really great companions to pick from. This week we have two more little ones for your consideration and they would love to change their luck and find forever homes.

Penny (ID# A 1693353) is a 6 year old female tan Smooth Coated Chihuahua mix. Sweet Penny is a bit larger weighing 10.5 pounds. We think she looks like a little kit fox. We mentioned her briefly last week as she is presently kenneled with little Cornelius. Penny came to us shy after being in a home where the children scared her. She just loves people especially if she can cuddle in your lap. She would enjoy taking daily walks and is easy on leash. She is a curious little girl and likes to be part of everything going on. She has attended our small dog play groups and enjoys a game of chase as she “talks” to her friends. Penny would like a quiet mature home and please no children or grandchildren. When she is enjoying “lap time” she prefers not to share that lap with another dog. Penny can be a little protective of her person when Cornelius wants lap time at the same time. Penny loves Cornelius her kennel mate and when resting the spoon each other in their dog bed, it is such a sweet sight.  Penny is very popular with our staff and volunteers. She has beauty, brains and just enough spunk to brighten every day with her. Penny is at our Eastside shelter in building A so come in to meet her. If two is company then perhaps you might consider taking her kennel mate Cornelius home as well.

Micki 1719093 is a 1 year & 7month old, male brown and black Smooth Coated Chihuahua mix. He weighs only 5 pounds. This tiny little guy is big on people. He loves laps and is fairly gentle. He does enjoy play with his little buddies and is a bit more active with them. He enjoys walks on leash and is an easy walking companion. He would like his children a bit older at least 8 years of age. Children don’t always know how fragile these little guys are so he needs a mom and dad that will teach their children how to handle a dog so small. Micki was at our Eastside shelter and a very popular young guy with our volunteers. He was kenneled with several different kennel mates and every day he would curl up sharing a bed with them. Micki has new digs now so come at meet this tiny guy at our Lucky Paws location.
