Pets of the Week | May 30

Hopefully everyone had a safe holiday spending time with family and honoring those in the military.

Holidays are generally a busy time at the shelter with many stray dogs coming in. People leave for the holiday and choose to leave their dogs in their back yard when they may not have left their dogs out for this long a period before. Add to this the wet weather with thunder and lightening that Albuquerque had and this can be a recipe for disaster. If you are now in search of your pet please come to the closest shelter to search for them. Please remember how important it is to have your pet micro-chipped.

One of our featured pets from May 14th Mysti the smaller shepherd was adopted. Cooper our shier affectionate Tibetan terrier is hoping to find a quiet calm home soon.

We have two great and very different dogs to feature this week. If you like small and spunky then Bear could be your perfect match. If you like mellow and larger consider Arthur for your forever companion.

Bear (ID# A 1716701) is a 2 year old, male black & brown, Smooth Coated Chihuahua mix. He is a bit larger weighing 20 pounds. Bear was surrendered with a furry friend due to the family not being able take care of companions any longer. Bear’s Shitzu friend was adopted and since then he has been kenneled with several other smaller dogs. He is fairly active and really enjoys walks and play time. He walks well on leash. He is a curious little guy that is alert to all that goes on around him. Most dogs will alert their family when strangers come to the home if given a chance to bond to family and home. Bear  may be a great little indoor “watch dog” so no worries if that salesman approaches your door. Bear will surely give you a “heads up” so to speak. Bear loves attention and enjoys “lap time”. He is an affectionate dog quick to shower his person with kisses. When he arrived he was a bit on the shy side. New surroundings and a loss of home and family can be difficult. He would love a family with children 12 and over. He might be a great fit for a mature home too as long as he gets some exercise and daily walks. Bear has enjoyed our small dog play groups. He is quite playful. Presently he has a very sweet kennel mate named Pumpkin (a Chihuahua/Schipperke mix). Pumpkin and Bear enjoy curling up in a bed together and will share someone’s lap. Pumpkin is on the mellow side and Bear is the social butterfly but they get along very well. This little cutie came to our shelter in April and would like to say good-bye this weekend and find his forever home a.s.a.p.  You will find Bear at our Eastside shelter.

Arthur (ID# A 1717272) is a 6 year old, male, black & tan German Shepherd mix. He weighs 75 pounds. Arthur is a sweet gentle fellow. Arthur loves to take walks and walks nicely on leash. He has a lovely coat and is good with brushing. He keeps his kennel clean and takes care of business right away. Arthur would love a calmer quiet home. He gets a bit stressed while walking through the kennel building where dogs bark at passers by to get attention. Arthur was found to be family friendly so if your children are looking for a best friend and your home is not “party central” then Arthur may be your perfect match. It seems Arthur does not have much experience around other dogs so he is on the shy side. He walks nicely alongside his buddies but doggie play is not his thing. Arthur can be a bit timid with sudden movements but loves to be petted and he can sneak in a quick kiss if allowed. Arthur will be a sweet affectionate companion with lots of love to give. He loves to be with his people! Perhaps mom is looking for a friend to shadow her during the day and keep her company. Perhaps a mature couple is looking for a constant companion and someone to accompany them on daily walks, to be your companion while you work in your garden and if lucky share a couch while you share a good book. Arthur is ready to leave shelter life behind and find a person or family to be completely devoted to. Come meet our mellow boy at the Eastside shelter.
