I watched my hometown go through a horrifying time earlier this week. What happened in Baltimore is but a small part of many larger problems in our society. I acknowledge that I don’t know much about poverty and hopelessness but I also know that the way to solve it isn’t to burn down or loot the businesses of the people who live in those same neighborhoods. Police must be strong but not abusive and community leaders cannot allow the chaos we saw to go unchecked. I hope we’ll all try to understand each other without stereotyping and finger pointing but I have my doubts that cooler heads will prevail.
