Bronx our play group favorite and SAFER test helper dog and sweet handsome Oscar are still available at our Eastside shelter. Along with these two great boys we have had some pretty great dogs come into the shelter this week. We had two Affenpinscher mixes that actually look quite like the breed and a gorgeous 8 month old Golden Retriever mix. We are always amazed by the truly great dogs that find themselves in our shelter in need of a home. The two black lab sisters greet us every day and are eager to share in play and give us kisses but they really want to find their true forever home.
This week we are featuring two sweet gals. If you are looking for a loving playful dog with beauty and brains then Tanisha could be your new lifelong companion. If you prefer an equally sweet dog that is easy going companion come in and ask to meet Lucky.
Tanisha (ID # A 1643337) is a 3 year old, female, tricolor German Shepherd & Australian Cattle dog mix with striking markings. She weighs 42 pounds. Tanisha has an energetic side and has been known to herd her friends during play group. I kind of think she may have a bit of Australian Kelpie in her genes as I have one that is similar in looks and behavior. If only we could to a DNA test for every dog that comes into our shelter. Tanisha came to us a shy stray. Several of us quickly fell in love with this girl and began to help her blossom into the dog she is today. She had been a bit timid and yes, sadly unfamiliar with petting along her back. She appeared to be somewhat sensitive and unsure. She is a bit on the skinny side due to shelter stress and needs to gain a few pounds. Tanisha has become a loving dog that enjoys gentle touch and will sidle up to someone leaning against them for some quality petting and affection. Tanisha loves to play with her friends and we use her as one of our play group greeters. She encourages play with other dogs and can soften her play to accommodate. If a dog begins a game of chase Tanisha quickly joins in. She is quick on her feet and no one is going to pass her for the lead in this game. Due to her heritage her play can include unique herding play using her head butting the other dogs to encourage play and she can nip at heels. Tanisha also enjoys fetching tennis balls and is very gentle bringing them back. She does not drop them yet but she reaches out for you to take them and she is a very gentle when we take them for the next throw. Tanisha also enjoys chilling for a belly rub, sniffing the air, taking in the sights and she dearly loves to be loved. Tanisha has learned some skills walking well on leash and she knows the cue for sit well. She knows come although if she sees a bird it will grab her attention. She usually sits politely at her kennel door waiting to be leashed. She is a bit frustrated with kennel life and has been at our shelter since February 11th. She can feel it is necessary to talk to her noisy friends when exiting the building. Like so many of our shelter dogs you need to meet her in an environment other than the kennel buildings. This is where you get a truer picture of what the adoptee will be. Although every dog acclimates to its new home and routine in their own time we consistently hear from our adopters that the dog greatly changes once it is in a calmer quiet environment with the security of home and human parents with patience and of course, love. If you have a present companion please bring him/her down to meet Tanisha. She would also be just as happy being your only companion receiving love and attention showered on only her. She is ready to meet you at our Eastside shelter.
Lucky (ID# A 1032819) is an 8 year old, tan & white, female American Pit Bull Terrier mix. She is a small girl weighing 38 pounds. She is a great smaller size and really doesn’t look much like our other pitties. Lucky is an easy going gal. She is a gentle loving companion. She enjoys taking walks and is a “gem” to walk. Lucky enjoys greeting other dogs or taking walks alongside other dogs. She is quite laid back and play time really is not her thing. She loves to be petted and will sneak a little kiss if you let her. Lucky is a calm quiet girl in her kennel and appears to be unnoticed and passed by due to her gentle nature. One of Lucky’s favorite things to do is rest her little head in your lap after a nice walk and be gently petted. This gentle loving dog is ready to find her perfect match so consider changing Lucky’s luck by choosing her for your next companion.
