With Susana Martinez starting her second term this week as New Mexico Governor and a State House now controlled by Republicans for the first time in 60 years, there is a new sense of vigor and optimism surrounding New Mexico.  You could even hear it in the timber of the Governor's voice, a commanding and compassionate tone and a real belief that we are now on the right track.  The politicians finally got the message from the voters last fall that we are tired of lagging behind the rest of the US and the west in job growth, opportunity, and general happiness.  We want to go in a new direction that is not dictated by Santa Fe politics as usual.  We have tried that for decades and it simply does not work.  But this is where the struggle begins, as the New Mexico Legislative session starts and we as voters need to finally hold our elected representatives accountable for the livelihood of our State in this critical time in history.
