Bernalillo County District Attorney, Kari Brandenburg, has decided to pursue open counts of murder charges against officers Keith Sandy and Dominique Perez for their involvement in the James Boyd shooting. This is the first time the Bernalillo County DA has ever pursued such a charge against a police officer. In light of the DOJ report on APD and the string of national incidents involving police shootings, I wonder if this was done to suffice public opinion on the matter and deter the continued protests in Albuquerque. This murder charge led the news on ABC's Good Morning America Tuesday. Why? Because the national press smells another sensational cop shooting being played out in courts for all of us to see and gasp over. So we will now be privy to another circus on this incident, which in the end should exonerate these officers. James Boyd, sound mind or not, is responsible for his own actions. When will we stop placing blame and punitively punishing those who are just doing their jobs?
