Our two popular dogs Sunny and Felipe alas have not found their forever home yet so come on down to the Eastside shelter to meet our intelligent spunky petite Pit Bull Terrier Sunny or our playful affectionate walking partner Felipe.
This week we have two Boxer mixes. These boys are very different but have similar traits from their breed mix. One is a bit older, mellower yet fun loving and one is still very puppyish, energetic and highly intelligent.
Major (ID# A 1111396) is a 7 year young, male black & tan Boxer/Chinese Sharpei mix. Major weighs 54 pounds. Major was surrendered when his parents moved. They let us know that he was primarily outside. Those who know Major find this so very sad. He is very quiet and well behaved in his kennel usually just lying in his bed until someone approaches the kennel door and his hopes soar. He is eager to take a walk and spend time with people. Don’t let his age fool you he has some energy and is a playful boy. He could use just a bit of practice on leash as he initially jumps up with excitement. Generally when dogs are adopted and get their daily walks this improves in no time. He is an affectionate guy that also enjoys chilling lying at someone’s feet or perhaps resting his head in a lap for petting. Although his parents said he can be territorial with other dogs we have found him to do quite well with other dogs in play group. Just this week he had a grand time. He does play a bit rowdy and his Boxer nature comes through. Boxers generally play by “boxing” with their paws standing up on their back legs. Since they did not spend much time with him perhaps they just did not understand this. They also said he managed to climb over their fence but again when a dog is outside all the time and lonely he just wants to be with people. With a bit of patience, training, attention and time spend indoors with his human family this can be overcome. As you will see in the lovely picture our volunteer photographers took Major is very handsome with nice markings. Typical of dogs his age Major needs to have a dental and have his teeth cleaned. If his adopter makes an appointment for this within 14 days of adoption it will be completed and covered by our clinic at AWD.
Major is ready to meet you at our Eastside shelter. He is such a great age having left the puppy hood behind yet is playful, loving and seeking forever companionship.
Pepper (ID# A1689338) is a 1 year old, male fawn & white Boxer mix. Pepper weighs 35 pounds. This lovely puppy came to us in February as a puppy. He is now 1 year old but still a puppy at heart. Like most puppies he is energetic and jumps up a bit. When he arrived he played on the mouthy side but has greatly improved. Still on occasion he can grab a toy or your hand in play so we feel he would do best in a home with older children. Pepper has gone through some training and is a very smart young dog. When in training mode he walks nicely on leash and knows the cue for sit very well. He often presents a sit for a treat even in the midst of doggie play groups. He plays very well with other dogs. Back in February he was a bit on the wild side like many puppies and over time he has mellowed a bit. This week he participated in a play group and was actually quite polite in his play. It is quite fun to watch Pepper when he also “boxes” during play although he seems to prefer a good game of chase. Pepper has a softer side and enjoys some affection and quiet time. Again our volunteer photographers took a lovely head shot of Pepper. When you meet him you will see he has some faint brindle markings common to boxers that really stand out next to the white tuxedo and blaze along his dark muzzle. Poor little Pepper is quite frustrated with kennel life. Presently he is wearing the “cone of shame” as he has a case of happy tail. Being so eager to meet everyone that passes by his kennel he wags his tail but when it repeatedly hits the kennel walls it becomes sore and bleeds on the time hence this is called “happy tail”. Don’t be concerned about this. It is wrapped and the cone keeps him from taking the bandage off. Once he gets into a home where he will get daily walks, attention and he is not stuck in a confined place his tail will quickly heal and not be a problem again. As you can imagine the cone is not very comfortable and he does not always see where he is going so may run into the back of your leg. Please be understanding when you meet Pepper while he is wearing this cone. Sweet playful Pepper is located at our Eastside shelter.
