SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) A court ruling allows a northwestern New Mexico legislator to stay on the ballot, but the issue may not be resolved yet. A District Court judge in Gallup ruled that Rep. Sandra Jeff didn't receive timely notice of an environmental group's challenge to the Crownpoint Democrat's nominating petitions. However, Conservation Voters New Mexico says it will appeal Judge Louis DePauli's ruling.
Jeff faces two challengers in the Democratic primary election in House District 5, which includes parts of McKinley and San Juan counties.
In a separate case, a judge in Santa Fe disqualified legislative candidate Algin Mendez after ruling that the Espanola Democrat didn't file enough valid signatures on his nominating petitions. Disqualification of Mendez leaves Democratic state Rep. Carl Trujillo as the only candidate in House District 46.
