The FBI says it will investigate the recent Albuquerque police shooting of a homeless camper as he turned away from officers. In a statement today, the FBI confirmed the probe, saying it wants to “assure the public that a thorough and fair investigation will be conducted to determine if any civil rights were violated.'' Also this week, U.S. Department of Justice officials, who for more than a year have been investigating allegations of excessive force by the department, told community members that some of the 37 police shootings in the past three years have been referred to criminal investigators.
