STATE BILLS BERNALILLO COUNTY DA FOR UNUSED PHONE SERVICE

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) The District Attorney's Office for Bernalillo County is being billed by the state for telephone service that the office isn't using, and the office isn't paying the state's bills. KRQE-TV reports that that District Attorney Kari Brandenburg last year decided that the state's phone system was old and didn't work well. So she switched to a private provider. However, the state Department of Information Technology says the Brandenburg's office continues to be billed because the office hasn't completed the state's process to stop using the state system.

According to the state, Brandenburg's office owes the state $93,000. Brandenburg said she's worried the unpaid bill will pop a red flag on her office's annual audit this fall.

Department Secretary Ackley says Darryl says he's now reviewing the bill.
