March 21st’s Pet of the Week

Our very cute and sweet brother and sister Corgi pair are still waiting to find their forever home. Spending time with them is such a joy but our fondest wish is to see them in loving home. Every adopter is given a folder that includes helpful information. Often a new pet may not eat well for a few days or is shy in new surroundings. It may take a few days for your new companion to acclimate. Sometimes the pet may not eat well for a couple days or is shy in new surroundings. We have included information to aid you.   The other side of the folder is the perfect place to keep your companion’s vaccination records and such. Inside there is a sticker with our myshelterpet@gmail account. This e-mail account is monitored. No matter what kind of questions or concerns you may have we will try to filter it to the appropriate person to aid you. We just love when so many of our adopters send pictures of their new companions with the family in their new home. It brings so much joy to the people who walked, played or trained with the dog to then see it posted on our “success board”. Next time you are at the Eastside shelter take a look at the lovely stories and pictures posted in the hall way.

Asia (ID# A 1502150) is a 7 year old, female, black & white German Shepherd mix. She weighs 84.2 pounds. Asia has a lovely soft coat that is very shiny. Her owner surrendered her due to allergies. They also said she was house trained and good with other dogs. We too have found she must be one of our potty brigade dogs as she will not use her kennel. She walks nicely on leash and really looks forward to her daily walks. She is a sweet and attentive companion. She enjoys affection and gives kisses. She knows the cue for sit and would be eager to learn new things. She has participated in our doggie play groups. Asia enjoys meeting and greeting other dogs. She was friendly and playful but did not really play chase or run with the group. Whenever the group began playing she wanted to be near and part of the group. Asia is quite popular as she is such an easy dog to walk. She easily connects to people. In fact she bonds so quickly when returned to her kennel she gets a little sad and will on occasion talk to the volunteer as if to say “please don’t leave me”.  She is very good at giving use that “wanting expression” too. Asia is quite the beauty and will be a truly devoted companion. She just wants to be near someone keeping them company whether on daily walks, lying at your feet or curling up under a desk. She might be a great dog to take to work with you too. Or perhaps if you work from home or are retired this girl will be your constant companion. This sweet lady is located at our Eastside shelter.

Dundee (ID# A 1690522) is a 1 year old, male, black & white Border Collie mix. He is a petite boy that weighs only 36.7 pounds. Dundee was surrendered because he jumped over a 5 ft wall and enjoyed eating chicken. This boy has taken hold of the hearts of many of our volunteers and staff. He is just the sweetest and most affectionate dog.  His grace and resilience is something we humans could learn a lesson from. When Dundee was in our clinic for his neuter surgery an xay was taken. The film showed that he had an old pelvic injury that has healed and BB gun pellets in his little body. He enjoys playing with a person and will run and hop into the air with joy while chasing you. He also enjoys tossing a rope toy and then waiting to see where it lands. His old injuries are affecting him. Later in life there is a chance this may cause him to be stiff and perhaps he may need pain medication. We want to make sure his new family it prepared should he need a bit of help in his senior years. After all, adoption is for a life time. Little Dundee has an under developed right eye. As you can see in his lovely picture it does not detract from this handsome boy’s beauty. His inner beauty (loving playful personality) is where he shines. His eye does not bother him and will not need treatment. He is very well behaved in his kennel and one of our potty brigade dogs. He was very recently neutered so he will just need a bit of time to learn his new homes routine and the proper time and place to go.  Dundee is calm, quiet, well behaved and usually found curled up in his bed.  He loves to chill with people while they are at a desk. He has accompanied volunteers to their lunchroom. Here too he is well behaved just lying under the table enjoying the company. He can be a little shy in the kennel if it is especially noisy. Once you take him out he quickly warms up. He just lights up once he spends a few moments with you. He loves to crawl into a lap, roll over and softly lay a paw on your chest or gently stroke your chin. We have noticed that Dundee is quite timid around other dogs. He enjoys taking walks alongside other dogs but does not want to play or be touched by other dogs. He would be happiest being the only dog. He has so much love to give his new family will be truly happy with only Dundee. He is waiting to capture your heart at our Eastside shelter.
